Saunasaari is located in the fabulous sea landscape of Helsinki, between Suomenlinna and Laajasalo at Vasikkasaari. Approximately 20 minutes by water taxi from the marketplace, Kauppatori. Since September 2000, the beginning of the “sauna of the month” project, organized by the culture city foundation and the Finnish Sauna Society, it has been possible for private persons to experience the smoke saunas of saunasaari.
Sanasaari has four sauna areas: Traditional Smoke, Aspen Smoke, Landscape Smoke and the Floating Sauna. Each has a traditional smoke sauna, a wood-heated hot tub, and nearby cottage. The facilities vary in size, and may be reserved for groups of 2-40 people. A cook house on the property can prepare meals for the guests.
Sanasari is located in the middle of Kruunuvuori at the northern tip of the Vasikkasaari Island, between Suomenlinna and Laajasalo. The trip from the Helsinki market place to Saunasaari takes about 15 minutes by boat. Saunasaari is open from end of April to mid October. There is no municipal engineering or electricity at Vasikkasaari. The washing water is taken from drill wells and warmed up in large pots, on fire.
